Non*Mart: Designs for a post-consumer planet
Non*Mart is a design studio and shop that uses post-consumer waste and repurposed materials to create new goods and services. Non*Mart’s mission is to explore alternatives to consumerism and develop more relational, less commercial means of economic exchange. Non*Mart Design creates products that promote independence from the mainstream economy. Offering home and lifestyle alternatives, our interior addition products and plans for mobile health and shelter options increase the function of your home and garden.
Shop Non*Mart, challenges conventional buying behaviors by giving consumers an alternative to currency based exchange. Buyers and sellers work with a barter system to determine the value of designs and products. Non*mart merchants and collectors discover the added benefits of a personalized mode of economic exchange, where the relational aspect of a transaction has the potential to increase the value of the traded goods and/or services.
You are invited to submit a product for the Non*Mart Shop. 

We are seeking artists/producers with an interest in exploring an alternative means of consumerism to create a piece or multiple pieces to be included in our trade-based shop. 
To be considered, your piece must be made (in part or whole) of post-consumer waste and/or address ideas of consumerism, waste, and the ramifications of our consumer culture. 
As artists, you know firsthand the trials of living and working outside accepted modes of earning and spending. Non*Mart gives you an opportunity to explore an alternative means of exchange that emphasizes a more personal engagement between buyer and seller.
What Happens in Shop Non*Mart?

Should your product be accepted to the shop, you will be given an official Non*Mart trade sheet where you can list a desired dollar value for your piece/pieces. You can choose to sell your product for dollars or notate items or services you will be willing to trade, barter, swap or exchange for your product. When a customer expresses interest in “buying†your piece, they will be shown your official Non*Mart trade sheet where they can review your trade requests and select which things they wish to swap in exchange for your product. You will be able to review the submitted trade sheet and decide to accept or decline the offer.
• Products can be offered in exchange for dollars or trade or a combination of both.

• When an exchange is agreed upon, both the buyer and seller will sign the trade sheet which then acts as a contract between the two. 
• Your product will be held until the trade requirements have been met and both 
 parties are satisfied.
• Upon completion of trade, the product will be delivered to the buyer.
 

Categories of exchange may include….
1. goods and material- fine art and functional objects, apparel, books, flora, items, gifts, non perishable baked goods*.
2. skill share of trade- Bike mechanics, skill share and trades, help moving, mowing lawn, cooking, tutoring, computer training or services, sewing, alterations, home repair, car repair, maintenance, gardening, babysitting.
3. health and beauty Yoga, massage, hair cuts, facials, physical fitness, meditation.
*Perishable baked goods or other edible food items available on order in skill share trade category.


To be considered

Please submit a short description of the product/products you would like to create for the Non*Mart Shop along with 5 images of your work. Please include a copy of your c.v. and other support materials.
